For the past few of days, I've been on a road trip with my family. While much time passed on the trip, I didn't end up doing much.
As with all things, it started with our family's failure to plan out the trip. I personally didn't know we were even going on vacation until Friday Night before we left. Thus, the night before we left, I sketched out a general idea of which destinations we wanted to go towards. The plan ended up being very loosely followed.
The first day, we left at around 9 after a morning of packing our things. The plan was to head towards Tucson, AZ on the first day. We took Interstate-5 down South towards San Diego. By the time we reached Santee, it was 11 o'clock and we decided to stop for lunch at a Costco in the city. After wasting nearly two hours buying snacks and a lunch (pizza, of course), we set out West. Highway 52 eventually merged onto Interstate-8, which we would stay on for most of the day. By the afternoon, we had arrived at the town of Yuma, AZ, by which point it was getting dark. It was around this time that we booked the hotel for the night. At around 9, when we finally reached the hotel, we discovered that no restaurants were open. Instead, for the first dinner of our vacation, we bought food at a gas station and began to ate.
The next day, we quickly visited Saguaro National Park and looked at some cacti, watched a movie, and took a very short hike. Afterwards, we drove up towards Phoenix, stopping at Eloy to eat at A&W's. At Phoenix, we visited a mall, that was really stinky. I merely used the bathroom. Afterwards, we ate at a formal restaurant and went to sleep. In the afternoon, I played cards with my family.
Come Monday morning, we took a quick visit to Arizona State University, before quickly eating lunch and heading for Albuquerque. The path was a mountainous one, and very cold, but I didn't really notice that much because I was playing games on the iPad. When we arrived, it was night. This time, we ate instant noodles.
The next day, we took a "gap" day in Albuquerque. We wasted a few hours in the hotel before, buying a little bit of ice cream, before heading to the mall to buy more stuff and play some games. Eventually, we left the mall to eat at an Italian Restaurant. Afterwards, it was games in the hotel, before sleep time.
The next day also began with video games, until we resolved to go to Lubbock, TX. We skipped lunch, owing to a lack of places to do so, and ate pizza at an arcade. Our hotel was pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but at least it was the biggest room we'd been in so far.
After that, we headed towards Austin, Tx. We ate in the town Abilene at a Subway. It was 7 by the time we reached our hotel. We went to an Outback Steakhouse, and pigged out before going to sleep. The next day we went to the Texas Capitol, LBJ Presidential Library, UT Austin, and a park. Then, we ate at a Texan BBQ place before going to sleep.
The next day we walked along the Colorado River for a while before heading to San Antonio, where we saw the Alamo and the riverwalk. I ended up eating at Taco Cabana for dinner.
The next day, we started heading back. A long day, and we stopped in Las Cruces, NM
Finally, we came home at around 11.
